Responding to the announcement of the new Employment and Support Allowance Regulations today, Rethink’s Chief Executive, Paul Jenkins said:

“The new Employment and Support Allowance regulations are part of the government’s bid to get hundreds of thousands of people with mental health problems into work. But, the biggest hurdle to employment for people with mental health problems is the 60% of employers who openly admit they wouldn’t look twice at a candidate with a mental illness.

“The Government needs to change British disability law so people do not have to disclose their mental health history until after an employer has seen their potential at an interview and a firm job offer has been made.”
