Morgan O'Connell joins Human Givens Foundation's Resolution PTSD advisory board

Morgan O'Connell, retired Surgeon Commander and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatry, has joined the advisory board of Resolution, a new PTSD service to be launched by the Human Givens Foundation on 24th January.

The Foundation intends to publish the research results after it treats 500 military veterans.

This service is unlike anything offered by the NHS, the Priory Group or Combat Stress. It is done in a very small number of sessions, each taking about an hour, and the bulk of the work is done in the first session. In most cases – in fact in all the cases seen in our research so far – the worst symptoms of PTSD disappear after the first session. We are in the process of showing that, in most cases, PTSD is not a long-term condition that you have to manage - it is capable of being treated very successfully and very quickly, leaving the (ex-) sufferer free to get on with his or her life. The social and economic implications of this are huge : the Royal British Legion and the US Veterans Administration estimate that up to one third of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan will face mental health challenges, including varying degrees of PTSD, on their return to civilian life. One little-noted fact is that more Falklands veterans have committed suicide than were killed in military action.

For more information on Resolution or to register your interest as a military veteran, call 0845 021 7873.
