GoSkills appoints new Qualifications and Learning Manager for Scotland

Further increasing its skills, apprenticeships and qualifications profile in Scotland, GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Passenger Transport, has appointed Stuart McKenna to the role of Qualifications and Learning Frameworks Manager for Scotland.

A newly created role within GoSkills, Stuart’s responsibilities as Qualifications and Learning Frameworks Manager include acting as the qualifications and education lead in Scotland, working on higher and further education provider projects, addressing the 14-19 skills agenda, and engaging with education and qualifications stakeholders on qualifications and training projects.

Commenting on his appointment Stuart said: “With GoSkills I hope to use my skills and experience to help get the best possible qualifications and learning framework in place for the passenger transport sector in Scotland. I’m aiming to build stronger links with higher education in Scotland and strengthen the profile of passenger transport in pre-employment qualifications in schools and colleges.”

Vicki Ball, GoSkills’ Director of Workforce Development, added: “We’re delighted that Stuart has joined the team as his extensive knowledge of qualifications and learning programmes will enable GoSkills to provide a dedicated and high quality service to the sector in Scotland.”

Possessing strong links with the Skills for Business Network and a thorough knowledge of the Scottish learning and skills scene, Stuart has been involved with Modern Apprenticeships and work-based training since 1994. This includes work with the Sector Skills Alliance Scotland, the Scottish Qualifications Authority, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, and a six-month secondment to the Scottish Government in 2007. A Glasgow Cardonald College Board Member from 2003-2007, Stuart currently sits on a number of national stakeholder groups involved in qualification development and review.
