GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Passenger Transport, in partnership with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), is pleased to announce the return in 2008 of its annual Go for Excellence Passenger Transport Awards1 – the third such event to be hosted by GoSkills which recognises outstanding achievements by apprentices and other learners working in the Sector.
The Awards will take place later this year at Lord’s, ‘the home of cricket’, on Thursday 13 November and as part of National Apprenticeship Week (25-29 February). GoSkills is now calling on sector employers to nominate staff they believe have made - through their own training and development - a significant contribution to their business. Application forms will be available from the beginning of May and regular updates on the Awards will appear on the GoSkills website: www.goskills.org.
The awards will feature two separate elements - Apprenticeships and Achiever of the Year. The first of these, Apprenticeships, contains three distinct categories: Rail – Engineering and Operations; Aviation; and Transport Engineering and Maintenance. The second element, Achiever of the Year – features three categories: NVQ/SVQ Achiever of the Year; Management & Leadership Achiever of the Year, and Basic Skills Achiever of the Year.
Employers and stakeholders representing the Passenger Transport Sector along with award nominees friends and family will be invited to join GoSkills and the LSC for the ceremony and the post Awards celebrations.
Stephen Gardner, Director of Apprenticeships at the LSC, commented: “We are delighted to support these Awards which celebrate Apprenticeships and other training successes within the passenger transport sector. The LSC’s role is to plan, fund and promote apprenticeships and we are pleased to sponsor schemes such the GoSkills Passenger Transport Awards, which encourage quality in achievement and delivery of apprenticeships across the UK. We also look forward to seeing those successful in the GoSkills Awards progress to the 2009 National Apprentice of the Year Awards run by the LSC.”
