The NFU is encouraging all staff to wear their wellies to work this week in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).
A number of fun-packed events will be held at NFU Headquarters tomorrow (Wednesday) as part of National Welly Week 2008 to raise vital funds for RABI – a charity which supports people in the farming community who are experiencing hardship or distress through no fault of their own. Contributions raised during the week will help pay for special items like stairlifts and electrically-powered vehicles to give a better quality of life to those in need.
As well as wearing their wellies to work for a small donation, NFU staff will also be asked to take part in a number of welly-themed lunchtime activities including a welly wanging competition. Other welly related events include a welly shaped cake sale and a welly boutique selling hand-made jewellery and greeting cards. The NFU HQ staff restaurant will also have a welly-themed menu including Hunters Chicken and Mud Pie.
NFU campaigns and events officer Jon Chinery said: “The NFU’s centenary also marks 100 years of support by the NFU and our members for RABI and ‘Welly Wednesday’ promises to be a fun way of raising vital funds for a very worthwhile cause. RABI does a tremendous amount of work to help those in the farming community, so we are delighted to be able support the charity whenever possible.”
