The British Cement Association (BCA), the Quarry Products Association (QPA) and The Concrete Centre (TCC) have announced today (5 September) that they are to merge to form a single organisation. The new organisation will formally launch on 1 January 2009.

Representing industries that contribute £5bn of value to the UK economy, the new organisation will focus on strengthening its visibility and impact. With unified governance, resources can be used more effectively and interface with members and stakeholders can be simplified.

The new merged organisation has Lynda Thompson as its Chairman Designate and Mike Gilbert as Chief Executive Designate.

Lynda Thompson heralded the announcement as a great opportunity for the new organisation to “reflect the changed structure of the UK industries and to really add value. With wider scope and enhanced profile, we can build upon the achievements of the three constituent bodies and take the work forward. I am confident that this merger is in the best interests of all of our members, the industry and the users of our essential products.”

Mike Gilbert added “The opportunity for us all now is to ensure that the value of the new combined organisation is greater than the sum of its parts.”
