The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has named Bridget Boreham as the Institutes first Chief Operating Officer.

Speaking about her appointment Bridget said: “This is a really exciting and challenging role. The CIOB has a fantastic tradition for setting high standards through qualification and development of the industries finest leaders. Through my previous role at Bexley College I am well aware of the Institutes work and potential areas where we can continue to make progress.”

Chris Blythe CIOB Chief Executive added: “Bridget’s experience in offering education and training opportunities through Bexley College will be an obvious benefit for us. The fact that she also has significant experience in construction education makes her appointment even more ideal.”

Bridget was born and educated in Ireland and came to live in London having graduated from University in the late 1970s. To attain her CEO status she recognised the need for commercial experience on top of her academic background. She decided to move into management in the mid 1990s and studied for a MBA which has been the back bone of her success since.

Before joining the CIOB Bridget was Principal and Chief Executive of Bexley College a medium sized organisation with 450 staff serving 7000 students, and an annual turnover in excess of £13 million.

Under her stewardship the college improved its performance and its financial position enormously. She accomplished this by developing staff to achieve excellence and through a number of key strategies. Including, setting up a separate commercial company, using the college’s skills, to exploit funding and income sources.

Bridget’s new appointment as Chief Operating Officer will consist of the management of the Institutes Operations Team and a portfolio that includes education, membership services and international development.
