Chamber win trade association forum annual report of the year award 2008

The Chamber of Shipping scooped the Annual Report of the Year Award at the Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards 2008 at Intercontinental London Park Lane Hotel on Thursday 24 July 2008. The Chamber’s 2008 Annual Review faced strong competition from other finalists including ABTA – the travel association – and the Periodical Publishers’ Association.
Commenting on the Review, the judges said “the winner was... a square 50-page brochure intended to represent the British shipping industry to governments, Parliament and international organisations. Superb pictures and a magazine layout quickly engage the attention of readers who might not normally open an annual report, enabling the Chamber to make hard lobbying points within.
“Readers without much time were helped with a summary on a single sheet and main points highlighted at the start of every chapter. But it was the magazine-style panache of British Shipping 2007-8 that made it a winner. The judges felt that this report was an impressive representation of an important industry.”
Jeremy Harrison, the Chamber’s head of communications, was surprised when he was called up for the Award by Sandi Toksvig. “Everyone at the Chamber and at Cambridge Publishers (who provide editorial support, design and print management) works hard to produce a Review that properly conveys the importance, size and complexity of the UK’s shipping industry, but it is fantastic to receive such an endorsement from outside its main target audience.”
The Chamber’s Annual Review 2008 had a new square format that has proved very popular. “We try to make a radical change to the design of the Review every few years” said Harrison. “It keeps it fresh – but we never change the quality of both production and content, it has to be able to represent one of the UK’s great industries. London is the world centre for the shipping industry and we are one of the world’s leading shipping nations. We want our readers to feel pride and excitement at the industry’s success.
