Care Council for Wales: OBE Honour for Care Council Chair

Mutale Nyoni, Chair of the Care Council for Wales, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her contribution to social care and the voluntary sector in Wales.
As the Care Councils’ first Chair she has been instrumental in supporting the Council to establish and develop its role as a regulatory body promoting high standards of conduct and training for social care workers and social workers.
She remains committed to the involvement of service users, carers and the general public together with practitioners and professional in the work of the Care Council.
Rhian Huws Williams, Chief Executive of the Care Council said; “We are delighted that Mutale’s leadership of the Care Council has been recognised together with her contribution to social care policy and practice at the start of ‘Wales Social Care Week’.
Mutale Nyoni said; “I am overwhelmed to have received such an honour which came as a great surprise. I am particularly pleased that it is for work in the social care sector. Enhancing standards of care is very close to my heart and a successful and effective Care Council for Wales is central to this endeavour. I am also very pleased to hear that Phil Hodgson, Director of Social Services as Blaenau Gwent, has a been recognised with an MBE for the contribution, I know he has made, to and through social services in Blaenau Gwent".
