BASC is to make a direct appeal to its members to help fund the cost of building its new Communications Centre.

Over the next few months letters will be sent to all of the association’s 127,000 members asking for donations. These can be made by post, over the phone or, for the first time, via the BASC website.

During the last hundred years BASC has successfully worked to promote and defend shooting. As it begins its second century BASC wants to stay ahead of those opposed to the sport. To do this it wants to build a state of the art communications centre. This will have the latest TV, radio and web production facilities along with a new graphics studio to enhance and further develop publications like Shooting & Conservation, The Custodian and Wildfowling magazines.

Twenty years ago BASC made a similar appeal to its members to cover the cost of converting a series of old farm buildings into a facility to house its growing specialist departments. Its success means that thousands of members each year are now provided with expert advice and support on all sorts of issues from gamekeeping and firearms to licensing and conservation.

BASC’s head of fundraising, Nick Glazebrook, said: “What we want to do now is build on our earlier successes by investing in a new, purpose built communications centre. We live in fast changing media age and to fight our corner effectively and defend shooting we have to have the right equipment to make our voice heard. This is a critical project for shooting and a big challenge. I very much hope our members and indeed the whole shooting community will help us make this vision a reality.”

Donations can be made by post to The Centenary Appeal, Marford Mill, Rossett, Wrexham, LL12 0HL or by phone on 01244 573030. Members can also donate securely via the BASC website www.basc.org.uk
