Our figures show that in the first two months after its launch, the Faster Payments Service has already processed well over 4 million payments. By comparison when CHAPS sterling, the UK’s other same-day payments system, launched in February 1984 it processed 96 thousand payments in the same period of time.

Now, nearly three months after launch, latest figures show that the Faster Payments Service is processing just under 250,000 payments per day.

The quarterly statistical release provides a comprehensive overview on all UK payments data including expenditure on plastic cards, repayments and lending on credit cards, cash machine withdrawals, cheques, Faster Payments, CHAPS payments, Direct Debits and Bacs Direct Credits.
