This conference will provide practical help and support for registrars about to make the difficult transition to the consultant grade and for consultants within the first five years of appointment facing the new responsibilities of their position. The pitfalls and opportunities for new consultants will be discussed with suggestions on how to handle relationships with colleagues, patients, managers and primary care trusts. Understanding job planning, including flexible working and the process of appraisal and revalidation is also included and speakers will use their own experience to provide advice for navigating this challenging time in a medical career.
