PCS: Union responds to Queen's Speech

Tuesday, 6 November 2007 12:00 AM

Responding to the Queen's Speech, The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) questioned how the government could successfully implement its agenda outlined today given that it was cutting jobs and the budgets of the majority of government departments involved.

Commenting, Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary, said: "Job cuts, budget cuts and freezes all jeopardise the agenda set out by the government today. It is difficult to see how they can reconcile improving public services, skills and education whilst continuing with swingeing cuts. The government need to recognise that in order to realise its agenda it needs a fully resourced and motivated workforce that is fairly paid."
