Welcome
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is one of the largest social policy research and development charities in the UK. We spend over £10 million a year on our
research and development programme.
For over one hundred years we have been
searching out the causes of social problems, investigating
solutions and
seeking to influence those who can make changes. We do this by:
• gathering
evidence from research and from practice, including the work of the
Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust;
•
communicating the messages widely and impartially;
• working in
partnership with others.
Our mission
To
search,
demonstrate and
influence, providing evidence, solutions and ideas that will help overcome the causes of poverty, disadvantage and social evil.
Our aims
JRF has three inter-connected aims:
•
Poverty: to examine the root causes of poverty and disadvantage and identify solutions.

Our principles
• We are an
independent organisation.
• We work in
partnership with all sectors.
• We ensure that there is
strong evidence for everything we say.
• We communicate openly and transparently, presenting the evidence in a
balanced and unbiased way.
• We look for practical and realistic
solutions, learning from success as well as failure.
• We focus on the needs of the
most disadvantaged people whose voices and experiences inform all our work.
• We are committed to ensuring that our work reflects the
diversity of the UK population.
• We work across
all parts of the UK, drawing lessons from, and communicating across, the whole country.
