Welcome to the British Association of Removers (BAR)

BAR represent over 500 of the UK’s leading professional removal and storage companies all of which are covered by the OFT Approved BAR Code of Practice.

We are dedicated to promoting excellence and aims to be the recognised voice of the professional moving industry, to provide a comprehensive range of essential services to its members, and to be the guardian of professional standards for the benefit of its members and their customers.

OFT Approved Code of Practice

BAR is the only representatives of the moving and storage industry whose members’ Code of Practice is fully approved and monitored by the Government’s Office of Fair Trading (OFT). It gives protection and peace of mind for both you and your customers.

“BAR has an influential role in the removals industry and its code is the first in its sector to be awarded OFT approval.”

John Fingleton, Chief Executive, Office of Fair Trading

All BAR members abide by the Code that dictates the standard of service customers will receive, the quality of the materials used, the standards of vehicles and warehouses, staff training requirements and what will happen if something goes wrong. Most importantly the Code requires BAR moving companies to deal with customers in a courteous and sympathetic way at all times.

Lobbying and Representation

BAR represents the interests of its members by:

  • Lobbying key political decision makers at UK and European level

  • Consulting with consumers on a range of issues

  • Giving our views to Government departments and provide feedback on consultation papers

  • Lobbying in Europe mainly through our membership of FEDEMAC (the Federation of European Moving Associations), which represents more than 4,000 professional moving companies

  • Working closely with organisations such as the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and the British International Freight Association on matters of mutual interest, such as the Working Time Directive and Drivers’ Hours Regulations.
