NEC Conference Start: 9 Jul 2011 - 9:00am End: 10 Jul 2011 - 5:00pm The 2011 NEC will be held on 9th and 10th July 2011 at the Union's training and education centre, Stoke Rochford Hall, near Grantham, Lincolnshire. Black Teachers' Conference 2011 - TBC The Black Teachers' Conference is an annual event that allows the NUT's black members to discuss and address issues of race equality, education, and the workplace. Delegates have the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers, attend workshops on a range of topics, network with other black members of the NUT, and debate and send a motion to the NUT's Annual Conference. LGBT teachers Schools Out Conference: 5 February 2011 Schools Out Conference: Saturday 5th January 2011, Drill Hall, London. NUT President Gill Goodswen and Stephen Gilbert MP join us with 'out' LGBT stake holders to explore how LGBT people can be safely visible in education. Disabled teachers conference Each year the Union holds a conference for members of the Union who define themselves as disabled. This event enables teachers to share experiences, learn from each other and debate Union policy about campaigns to achieve disability equality in the profession. This event is open to all teachers who define themselves as disabled and this can cover teachers with cancer, HIV, MS, ME, Parkinsons disease, epilepsy, mobility impairments, visual impairments or hearing impairments, work-related stress, anxiety, depression as well as any other mental or physical impairment which teachers experience. The Union also has a disabled members' network which members are welcome to join so that information can be shared about what positive adjustments head teachers have made. Campaigning For Education - Fred And Anne Jarvis Award 2011 The National Union of Teachers runs an annual award to recognise the contribution of individuals, external to the Union, who have campaigned tirelessly on educational issues. The award recognises the example and commitment to education shown by former NUT General Secretary, Fred Jarvis, and his wife, Anne Jarvis, a lifelong NUT member and former chair of the education committee for Barnet Council, who died in 2007. The deadline for nominations is 1 February 2011. NUT Cymru motion at Wales TUC Conference calls for school banding rethink

NUT Cymru has continued its call for a review of the school banding system as part of a motion to the Wales TUC Conference in Llandudno. Wales’ largest union for qualified teachers has been leading opposition to the controversial system since it was introduced in December 2011. The motion highlights the detrimental impact banding is having on schools and staff across Wales and calls on the Welsh Government to review the decision to implement it.

NUT Cymru highlights supply worker concerns at TUC Conference

NUT Cymru has called on the Welsh Government to work closely with Local Authorities in Wales to tackle the continuing problem of eroding rights for supply teachers. NUT Cymru, Wales’ largest Union for qualified teachers, says that some supply agencies are seeking to avoid their obligations under the Agency Worker Regulations.

NUT members to strike at Downhills School, Haringey, London

NUT members will be taking strike action tomorrow (Tuesday 22 May) over the proposal by the DfE to force Downhills School to become a sponsored academy.
