NUT Deputy General Secretary speaks at Neath event

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers will be addressing teachers in Neath on Thursday (3rd November). Kevin Courtney, who has been leading for the NUT in negotiations with the Westminster Government on pensions, will be speaking at the Towers Hotel about the Union’s pension campaign.
The event will inform members of how negotiations are progressing, and the damage the Government’s plans will have on teachers and their families, ahead of expected industrial action on November 30th.
NUT Deputy General Secretary, Kevin Courtney, who is originally from Pontypridd, said:
“I am delighted to be able to come home to Wales to speak with teachers directly about the way the Government’s attack on pensions will impact on them. Teachers across Wales and the UK are being told that they must work years longer, pay more into their pensions and, ultimately, receive less for it. The plans are staggeringly unfair.
“Teachers are rightly outraged by the Government’s position. It is very much a case of asking ordinary teachers to pay for the damage done to the economy by City bankers.”
NUT Division Secretary for Neath Port Talbot, Roberto De Benedictis, added:
“It is great to be able to welcome Kevin to the area. I know that there are a great number of teachers very anxious about the Westminster Government’s plans and it will be excellent for them to hear what the current situation is, and how they can make their voices heard. Teachers’ pensions are sustainable and affordable, which makes the Government’s position even more unacceptable.”
