NASUWT: 'There is an alternative to plundering public services'

Commenting on the eve of the Comprehensive Spending Review, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers' union, said:

"Parents and teachers are holding their breath in anticipation of the announcements to be made in the Comprehensive Spending Review and what it will mean for the services on which children and young people depend.

"The Chancellor has the opportunity to make the right choice.

"If he gets it wrong he risks damaging irreparably the lives of young people and the prospects for economic recovery.

"There is an alternative to plundering public services if the Chancellor is courageous enough to take it.

"Making the banks and financial institutions pay their way is better and fairer than robbing the poor to protect the rich."
