20/09/2008: BMF tail end

Saturday, 20 Sep 2008 08:16
20-21st September, East of England Showground, Peterborough

The BMF’s Tail End event always has a party atmosphere about it but as this year marks the tenth anniversary of Tail End, things are looking good for a real party. But before that comes daytime action with the spectacular racing of the UK Shorttrack Championships - and on the Saturday a bit of fire walking!

This year Tail End will play host to round 6, the penultimate round of both the Shorttrack Championship and the Thunderbike Championship. Seen at the BMF Show in May, this championship series has proved a real hit with crowds throughout the UK and adds a new and exciting dimension to the day. (See http://www.shorttrackuk.com for more).

Another and different dimension comes with an attempt to break the UK charity fire walk record! The Women’s International Motorcycle Association (WIMA) are org anising the biggest charity fire walk in the UK on the Saturday with profits being split between the BMF Foundation and the WIMA India Street Kids Project. WIMA need 120 firewalkers to take part and there are prizes for the top fundraiser. Entrants must pre-book by text to: 0780 873 9925 or emailing WIMA’s organiser, sheonagh.ravensdale@yahoo.co.uk .

But bikes still feature large and stunt display teams Bolddog Lings and the Solent Eagles will bring exciting bike action back to the arena as will regular favourites, the Moped Enduro and of course Vintage Speedway, all topped off by a Cavalcade of BMF Clubs. The Moped Enduro will be the decider for the honour of becoming the ‘Tail End Champion’ and if they competed in the BMF Show as well, can go on to become the Overall Champion of the Year. With over 60 teams competing at any one time, this is fast and very furious stuff!

On s ite camping will again have a choice of live music venues covering everything from heavy metal, through hard rock to blues, soul, ska and pop. Some great bands have appeared at Tail End and this year is no exception, with live music from bands including Hooker, Innofensive and Big Day to name a few. The Battle of the Bands competition returns with a slightly different format, 8 bands over 2 days and the audience has their say. The winning band will be invited to star in the line-up for next year’s BMF Show.

There’ll also be over 200 exhibitors covering trade and autojumble stalls plus another 50 stands put on by BMF clubs. As it's the last show of the season, many exhibitors will be offering top bargains to boot (pun intended!) and gloves and clothing, and helmets etc. There’s also a fairground and plenty of activities for kids of all ages with sideshows, simulators, a shooting gallery, mini motos, trampolines,
Rodeo bull, climbing simulat or and inflatables. For the less able there’s even mobility scooter hire from Fair Mobility (www.fair-mobility.org.uk ).

The campsite opens at 2.0pm on Friday afternoon and the live music runs until midnight and then throughout the day on Saturday, again until midnight with Battle of the Bands continuing on the Sunday.
