14th Annual BACP Research Conference: 'Research and regulation: towards a knowledge based profession’

Cardiff Bay - 9 & 10 May 2008, co-hosted by Cardiff University

The theme for the 2008 research conference is ‘Research and regulation: towards a knowledge based profession’. With regulation on the horizon, it is more important than ever to develop the evidence base for the psychological therapies and to demonstrate the role of research.

Keynote speakers: Professor William B Stiles, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, USA
and Professor Mick Cooper, University of Strathclyde, Scotland, UK

Pre Conference Workshop (Thursday evening): 6.00-7.15pm (prior to dinner)
We are delighted to offer a pre-conference workshop which will be facilitated by Professor Robert Elliott, University of Strathclyde, Scotland, UK and Professor John McLeod, University of Abertay Dundee, Scotland, UK entitled ’Bringing out the quality in qualitative research’.

Who will be there?
Built on a reputation for excellence, this two-day conference has much to offer those working in the counselling and psychotherapy world, including researchers, students, trainers, providers and practitioners.

Conference Structure
It is anticipated that four or five strands will run simultaneously on each day with papers and workshops running throughout the day. Presentations are placed in strands, grouped to form coherent themes which run throughout the event giving you a wide choice from a varied programme. Posters will be presented separately; posters are displayed throughout the event and poster presenters have one minute in which to address the whole conference in order to attract interest to their research and visitors to their poster. An abstract booklet is available well in advance so delegates can plan their conference attendance. Free movement between strands is encouraged and booking for particular sessions in advance is not necessary, although sessions should not be interrupted once they are underway. Papers last for 30 minutes and workshops are for 60 minutes, and each presentation allows for Q&A and feedback session.

Abstracts
Abstracts for papers, workshops and posters have been peer reviewed and these will go forward to make the full programme. All abstracts from presentations at the conference will appear on the BACP website directly following the conference.

Deadline for submissions was 16 November 2007
