What's being talked about?
The second in a series of four, the ICON IT Giants Series presents a unique bite-sized session where you will be audience to a top journalist interviewing Dr Mike Lynch OBE, managing director of Autonomy.
Run by Intellect and in association with ICON, the series guarantees to provide business insights that will not only help improve your own company performance but demonstrate how these giants have become leaders in the IT industry rat race.
An entertaining format, the questions asked are designed to give thought provoking insight into the strategy and business decisions that have made Autonomy a leader in their field.
Who is the interviewee?
Dr Mike Lynch OBE founded Autonomy Corporation plc in 1996 based on his research at Cambridge University and rapidly established the company's reputation as a world-leading provider of infrastructure software for unstructured information and meaning-based technologies.
Over the years he has expanded the Autonomy Group both organically and through a series of targeted acquisitions. December 2005 saw Autonomy’s $500 million acquisition of former competitor Verity which consolidated the company’s position as number one in the market and in 2007 Autonomy acquired ZANTAZ, a global leader in content archiving and electronic discovery solutions, for $375 million anticipating a key area of growth. ZANTAZ now manages the world’s largest email archive and is an acknowledged leader in message archiving software. Autonomy now has a market cap of $4 billion, is the second largest pure software company in Europe and was named the Best Performing Software Company in Europe in 2007.
Dr Lynch recently won Innovator of the Year at the European Business Leaders Awards (EBLA), beating executives from SAP and Nokia, for pioneering new approaches to enterprise search and information processing technology. He is a past winner of the CBI’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a non-executive director of the BBC and a non-executive director of blinkx plc.
He studied Electrical and Information Sciences at Cambridge, received a Ph.D. in adaptive techniques in signal processing and connectionist models, and gained a research fellowship in adaptive pattern recognition. He also holds the Institute of Electrical Engineers' medal for outstanding achievement.
