Lenders fully support collective efforts to tackle mortgage fraud.
That is why the CML has just signed up to the National Fraud Authority’s new Fighting Fraud Together strategy (alongside 36 other separate representative bodies, government organisations, law enforcement agencies and voluntary groups). But the industry continues to be targeted by criminals, some of them highly organised and ruthlessly seeking to exploit changing market conditions or new practices. So, lenders remain vigilant. Today, therefore, we examine the numerous – and evolving – ways in which the industry continues to combat mortgage fraud.
We also look at our new guidance for lenders on arrears and possessions – and a renewed warning from the political arena on the potential impact of regulatory reform.
