CPA: Loft conversion project guide consultation

Wednesday, 9 September 2009 12:00 AM

The Construction Products Association has today launched a consultation for a Loft Conversion Project Guide in response to the Future of Building Control Consultation 2008. The guide will help simplify the Building Regulation process, assist with compliance and where applicable, offer solutions to achieve minimum, good and best standards for construction.

The consultation period will close on 9 March 2009 and the guide will be published in late Spring 2009.

Commenting on the draft guide, Chris Derzypilskyj, Technical Policy Advisor at the Construction Products Association said; "It is hoped this loft conversion guide will be the first of many publications designed by the industry for the industry. In my previous role as a Building Inspector I worked both for a Local Authority and as an Approved Inspector and have firsthand experience why manufacturers constantly demand more consistency in terms of applying the Building Regulations so as to ensure their products are installed correctly. This easy to use guide is designed to bring together solutions offered in the current Approved Documents with third tier guidance, such as industry literature, to deliver these goals."

The quantity and quality of free guidance available on loft conversions is both limited and outdated, that is why this guide will be made available as a free PDF and we will encourage Building Control Bodies throughout England and Wales to adopt the guidance as part of their own, to promote a more consistent platform for all.
