CIHT: David Gillham to be President for 2011 – 12

Wednesday, 22 June 2011 10:10 AM

The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is pleased to announce the inauguration of David Gillham as its new President.

At his inaugural meeting David set out his aims for CIHT in the Institution’s 81st year, he said:

“CIHT as a professional organisation is proud of its member’s achievements. The highways and transportation sector and associated infrastructure are vital for economic growth and development.”

“We have all had to face significant challenges both within our industry and beyond. The economic climate has and will continue to have a significant impact on the way we all operate in our personal and professional lives.”

“One of my aims for the year will be for CIHT to open a dialogue with key stakeholders, including our corporate partners and academia to research the types of skills our industry will require in the future. We will be working with members of the Transport Employers Skills Forum to deliver this.”

“CIHT relies on the ongoing commitment of our members to continue to succeed; we will be ensuring that the Institution provides a valuable service to all of our members. We are looking to develop enhanced members benefits over the next few months and the Institution is committed to continuing to provide a high level of service for our members.”
David’s theme for the year is “Adapting to Change”. This will involve focusing on the challenges affecting the highways and transportation industry, with particular reference to economic, political, environmental and technological change.

This theme will be explored in more detail at the CIHT Presidential Conference 2011 and more information can be found at www.ciht.org.uk
