The Chamber of Shipping welcomes the national security strategy update 2009

Thursday, 25 June 2009 12:00 AM

The Chamber of Shipping welcomes the National Security Strategy Update 2009 - Security for the Next Generation which provides a comprehensive overview of the security environment in which we live and within which our businesses operate. The new document recognizes - what we in the industry have long argued - that the UK is a distinctly maritime nation with over 90% of its trade being carried by sea. We welcome the importance the new strategy gives to energy supplies, the attention to maritime security threats such as piracy and specifically both the new National Security Forum and the other government structures which we believe will better serve the future security and defence needs of the maritime sector.
