Chamber of Shipping: 2009 Merchant navy medal award ceremony

What: Admiral Lord West of Spithead, the Merchant Navy Medal's patron will formally present the 2009 Merchant Navy medal recipients with their medals.
A photographer will be taking pictures and medal recipients will be available for interview and comment.
When: Monday 30 November 2009 at 3pm.
Where: The Library, Trinity House, Tower Hill, London, EC3.
Please advise Claire Sneddon (details below) if you wish to attend as space is limited.
Why: The Merchant Navy Medal has been founded as a charitable initiative with the support of the Chamber of Shipping, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Nautilus, the RMT, other trade unions, professional organisations and senior seafarers.
The medal recognises and rewards meritorious service and acts of courage afloat by British registered seafarers and members of the UK fishing fleets of all ranks.
Who: Up to fifteen people are short-listed for the Merchant Navy medal each year. Please see the following page for details of the people honoured in 2009.

Capt. P.G. Stapleton, Master, HURST POINT (Foreland Shipping) for brave conduct in attempted hijack of MV BOULARIBANK, Gulf of Aden, May, 2009.
Chief Engineer J. Parry, Consultant, BP Shipping for services to merchant shipping, especially the design and operation of LNG tankers.
Mr. I.C. Petrie Communications Officer, WIND STAR (Windstar Cruises) for services to merchant shipping, especially cruise ships.
