Michelles Blog

26/01/2011 The latest from the BUAV's Chief Executive Michelle Thew... Successful launch for new cosmetics campaign What a fantastic week! As I write, the signature total for our new No Cruel Cosmetics campaign in Europe has reached over 10,700 - after just one week of campaigning. We have been overwhelmed by the heartfelt responses of caring people across Europe and beyond on this issue. I am so grateful to the thousands of you who have already signed and urge those who haven't to do so as well as ask friends and family. Together we can make a difference! The campaign has been picked up by numerous media outlets and blogs. We were especially pleased that No.1 celebrity and fashion blogger Perez Hilton has shown his support for the No Cruel Cosmetics campaign in his new blog. Michelle Thew, Cheif Executive of BUAV I was delighted to see that BUAV's undercover investigation of animal botox testing at Wickham Laboratories received more great media coverage in a feature article in the Daily Mail. The article also covered the threat of a delay to the EU marketing cosmetic ban and included a great plug for the BUAV's Leaping Bunny programme. Our international campaign to end the primate trade also hit the headlines this week - following a tip-off received by our investigations team that a shipment of monkeys, destined for research, were flown into Toronto from China on an Air Canada flight at the weekend. Not only the transportation of primates, but also their trade and use in research, became a hot topic across the news wires in Canada as a result of the BUAV media team's work. Please support our call to Air Canada to stop transporting primates. We need to show the airline the strength of public feeling there is on this issue. Here in the office we are getting ready for the coming Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly elections taking place in May. Our Policy Team will be busy over the coming months taking the BUAV message out to the candidates. As always you will be able to keep up to date with their activities on Twitter and Facebook. Until next time Michelle
