BUAV launches animal testing advertising campaign in run up to General Election

In the run up to the General Election, the BUAV has launched an advertising campaign to encourage voters to find out the views of their prospective parliamentary candidates on animal experiments. This week, adverts will appear in the Metro, Manchester Evening News, Birmingham Post and Glaswegian.
The BUAV is working to ensure that prospective parliamentary candidates are made aware of the strong public concern there is surrounding animal experimentation. The BUAV has sent a questionnaire to all candidates from the main parties to gauge their views on animal research, on a number of different issues including the use of primates, Freedom of Information and household products testing. The information gathered is made public to provide voters with the opportunity to make an informed decision when they go to the polling station.
So far over 400 parliamentary candidates have responded and the results have been very positive. Over 95% agreed that more should be done to reverse the increasing trend of animals used in experiments and over 97% of candidates agreed that household products should not be tested on animals.
BUAV Chief Executive Michelle Thew said, "We are delighted with the response we have had from candidates so far. This is a very important issue for many voters and we are hopeful that more candidates make their views known and these views turn into real commitments in the next Parliament."
