New BSIA vice-chairman appointed

Julie Kenny CBE DL has been appointed as the new vice-chairman of the British Security Industry Association.

Julie Kenny has been involved in the BSIA for some 17 years including two stints as Chairman of the Security Equipment Manufacturers Section. Julie is Managing Director of Pyronix Limited, and Chairman, CEO and major shareholder of its parent company Secure Holdings Limited.

John Bates, BSIA Chief Executive, comments: "Julie brings to the role within the BSIA a wealth of experience of the private security industry and extensive knowledge of the workings of the Association. As a champion of small business in the Yorkshire region, Julie has made a real difference in advising and supporting Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) and I hope that her enthusiasm for this area will bring further benefit for BSIA's membership of which 84% are SMEs."

Speaking on her new appointment, Julie Kenny said: "I am delighted to have been appointed vice-chairman of the BSIA. I have long been a strong supporter of the Association and the work it undertakes raising standards, increasing professionalism and acting as the representative voice of our industry. I aim to assist the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Association in furthering the work of the BSIA in all these areas, bringing further success for the BSIA and its members."

Julie Kenny is Managing Director of Pyronix Limited, which she founded in 1986 and Chairman, CEO and major shareholder of its parent company Secure Holdings Limited.

For more than 15 years, Julie has been involved in serving the business community and is currently Board Member of Creative Sheffield, Yorkshire Forward and the Small Business Forum (which advises national Government about the needs of small businesses), is Vice-Chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Spatial Planning Board, a member of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, Better Regulation Stakeholder Group, Administrative Burden Advisory Board and is also a Director of the British Security Industry Association, Director of Chamber of Commerce Barnsley and Rotherham and Trustee of Mount St Mary's College.

In recognition of her contribution to the region's business and industry, Julie was awarded a CBE in the 2002 New Year's Honours List. During 2005 Julie was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant for South Yorkshire and in 2006 was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University in recognition of her 'outstanding contribution to industry and to the life of the region'.
