BSIA: Industry's finest are recognised for their outstanding dedication

A selection of the finest individuals from the security industry have been recognised in the British Security Industry Association (BSIA)'s Chairman's Awards 2010.

The prestigious awards distinguish those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the security industry over the past year and were presented in the following five categories: Contribution to the Industry, Contribution to Exporting, Contribution to Standards, Contribution to the Community and Contribution to Training.

The award for Contribution to the Community went to Bryan Clayton, Community Liaison Officer at Ebbsfleet Valley. Bryan works for Securitas Security Services Ltd who, in partnership with Land Securities, are conducting a 25-year project to transform Ebbsfleet Valley from a 1,000 acre former quarry into a completely new town. On completion of the first residential area, Bryan based himself on-site as Community Liaison Officer and has since excelled in developing this position. He has gone beyond the basics of this role to deliver results way above the expectations of both Land Securities and Securitas Security Services Ltd.

The award for Services to Exporting went to Paul Ramsay, Divisional Director of Sales at Norbain SD Ltd. Paul was nominated for the award in recognition of his sheer dedication to the BSIA and its Export Council and for raising the profile of the two whenever he has travelled overseas. Paul has been the chairman of the Export Council for the last two years, during which time he has assisted in raising awareness of the UK's private security industry abroad, sharing his expertise and experience of trading in so many international markets to influence the decision making of many fellow exporters.

The award for Contribution to the Industry went to Professor Martin Gill whose interest in, and ever close association with the private security industry and profession, goes way back well beyond 20 years. Martin has established a reputation for academic rigour and maintains cordial relationships with the widest variety of security professionals and practitioners. He is of great value to the BSIA and the security industry and offers sound and scholarly opinions and advice when needed.

The award for Contribution to Standards went to Patrick Dealtry, Commercial Director for Skyguard Ltd. Patrick has been heavily involved in the development of standards previously as the chairman of the BSI GW/3 Committee when he ensured all UK guarding standards were driven to completion, while investigating which new standards were required. Patrick was also the instigator of the Lone Worker Standard BS 8484 and is now the chairman of the BSIA's Lone Worker working group.

The award for Contribution to Training went to Terry Cheese from MITIE Security Ltd for his passion and delivery of training and development. As an experienced learning and development specialist, Terry has developed internal training programmes for officers and operations managers as well as creating bespoke training for clients, which is tailored to their specific needs and environments. Terry's efforts addressed the importance of improving standards and have produced innovative training and coaching programmes to enhance skill sets and capability.

The Chairman's Awards were presented by Association Chairman, Julie Kenny CBE DL, at the BSIA's Annual Lunch held on 14th July at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
