BMF: Westminster Bike Parking - North/South Circular Protest Run, Sunday 9th January

Westminster Bike Parking - North/South Circular Protest Run, Sunday 9th January

Delayed by the bad weather before Christmas, the latest protest run around London's North and South Circular roads against Westminster Councils on-street parking charges for motorcycles, will now take place this Sunday 9th January.

The British Motorcyclists Federation, a strong supporter of the 'No To Bike Parking Tax' (NTBPT) campaign, is again calling on all UK motorcyclists, no matter where they may live, to support the demonstration, not only to help show solidarity but also to help raise money for the NTBPT Court of Appeal Hearing that will challenge the charges.

Scheduled for mid-March, the hearing will cost an estimated £20,000 and with £11,000 still to raise, it is crucial that motorcyclists realise the nationwide implications say the bmf. If the appeal fails, the High Court ruling that Westminster's parking charges for motorcycles are legal could well signal the end of free parking for motorcyclists across the UK say the bmf.

The bmf's Government Relations Executive Chris Hodder, said: " We know that many think this is just a London issue, but it's not. We are not crying wolf here, the High Court ruling that Westminster's parking charges for motorcycles are legal could well signal the end of free parking for motorcyclists across the UK. That's why this case is important and that's why this funding is important, without it we cannot succeed."

This Sunday's protest ride on 9th January will be around London's North and South circular roads (A406 and A205) and will leave the world famous Ace Café, North Circular, Stonebridge, London NW10 at 10.30hrs and returns at around 16.30hrs.

Although all riders on whatever machine are welcome to join the protest, it is also hoped that whether they attend or not, motorcyclists can donate £10 each to the legal challenge fund. Fund donations should be made to: 'NTBPT' SORT CODE: 40-02-35, A/C 11411047

For postal donations, cheques should be made payable to: Warren Djanogly - NTBPT' and sent to bmf, PO Box 9036 Enderby, Leicester LE 19 9BE. For updates, forum and more details on the NTBPT campaign see: www.notobikeparkingtax.com
