BMF Kelso Bikefest Smiles Through!

While cars and vans were being washed along the roads of Edinburgh, just an hour’s ride away at the BMF’s Kelso BikeFest, things were much better with fine weather on the Friday and not enough bad weather on the Saturday to deter nearly 8,000 smiling showgoers enjoying the weekend.

In fact a fantastic party atmosphere was evident right from the start as campers enjoyed a warm (and mainly dry) Friday evening in the newly created outside bar area of the showground before heading indoors to enjoy live bands Almer Fiera and Piledriver.

Saturday though brought heavy showers, enough to cut short a planned 100 mile ride-out on the beautiful Borders country roads, but at least there was little or no wind and the campers still rolled in!

Undeterred by the weather, the Kelso Bikefest attendees enjoyed themselves with live bands Kick and Guns 4 Hire providing Saturday evening’s entertainment. Coverage from ITV’s local news on Saturday evening, coupled with clear skies and no further rain no doubt helped boost attendance on Sunday.

This year the show was supported by Edinburgh Harley Davidson and Saltire Suzuki, both of whom provided a number of demo bikes for show goers to test ride and all traders reported steady sales throughout the weekend

Martin Chick, Managing Director of The Mulberry Group, the BMF’s event organisers said: “This was our second Kelso BikeFest and although attendance was once again hit by unsettled weather on Saturday, the atmosphere around the showground was terrific. People were smiling and traders were doing good business. I’m pleased at the way things went and my thanks go to all the local BMF marshals for making the show a success.”

As if to prove the good mood, in an impromptu raffle on Saturday show goers generously donated over £245 toward the Horn of Africa appeal with another £595, (boosted by Saltire Suzuki contributing £100), being raised by Bonnyrigg Motorcycle Club for the Borders General Hospital.
