BASC: Top gun prizes for high guns at BASC Gamekeepers' Fair 2012

Visitors to a gamekeepers’ fair hosted by the UK’s largest shooting organisation are being invited to take part in two clay shooting competitions.

A national clay shooting competition for gamekeepers and an open clay shoot will be held at the BASC Gamekeepers’ Fair 2012 at Catton Park, Walton on Trent, Derbyshire, on 14th and 15th April.

Prizes of £50, £25 and £15 will be awarded for the top three scores in the gamekeepers’ clay shoot on each day. The person with the highest score overall will also win a trophy.

Glynn Evans, BASC’s head of game and gamekeeping, encouraged gamekeepers to take part in the competition.

He said: “The gamekeepers' clay shoot is a great opportunity for ‘keepers from across the UK to come together and pit their skills against each other. We look forward to meeting new people and catching up with familiar faces at the BASC Gamekeepers' Fair, which is one of the highlights in the gamekeeping calendar."

The prize for overall high gun in the open clay shoot is a high-grade Cesar Guerini "Gladius" semi-automatic shotgun. A prize draw will also be held, with a Cesar Guerini Roman MMI semi-automatic shotgun as the top prize.

Steve Bloomfield, BASC Midlands director, said: “You don't have to be a top shot to win in the open clay shoot. Every entry card over the two days will be entered into a draw and the winner will receive a new Cesar Guerini Roman MMI semi-automatic shotgun. So even if you don't hit a clay all day, as long as you have a shotgun certificate you could still go home a winner.

“For those who fancy their chances as the best shot over the two days there will be a contest on the Sunday to determine the best overall high gun with a high grade Cesar Guerini "Gladius" semi-automatic shotgun for the winner.

“There are cash prizes each day in the open class and cartridge prizes in the ladies, veterans and junior classes along with cash prizes each day in the pool shoot.”

The clay shooting competitions will be run by Clive Bramley of the Doveridge Shotgun Academy and tuition and coaching will be available at the BASC shotgun coaching line. All enquiries to info@doveridgeshootingacademy.co.uk or 07795 143116.

Entry to the open competition is £20 and re-entry is £17. There is no additional cost for entry into the gamekeepers' clay shoot.

Participants in both competitions will have their own car park and do not have to pay to enter the show in order to compete.
