BASC: Gourmet game supper in the Vale of Glamorgan

Tuesday, 15 November 2011 3:01 PM

A gourmet game supper will be hosted at a cookery school in Wales as part of a game meat promotion campaign run by the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).

Food writer and broadcaster Angela Gray will host the event supported by BASC Wales at Llanerch Vineyard Cookery School in the Vale of Glamorgan on 25th November.

People are invited to join Angela Gray and guests as they cook up a seasonal feast using local game. They will pick up plenty of tips and hear anecdotes from Angela’s travels cooking in Europe.

There will be a taster menu of venison carpaccio with remoulade, venison with glazed chestnuts, red cabbage with chilli, pheasant breast en croute with apple and calvados relish, braised wild duck with caramelised orange, liver pate and croutons and baked vanilla creams and sticky plums in port.

Canapés will be served along with a glass of wine. A glass of red wine will be served with the main dishes and a shot of port with the plums.

Meurig Rees, from BASC Wales, said: “We are pleased to be working once again with Angela Gray at her new cookery school. People attending will get to see a great chef at work unlocking the potential of game. Game meat is low in fat and is healthy and tasty.”

The evening will start at 7pm. Places cost £40 per person which also includes a copy of all the recipes demonstrated. To book your place, contact the school on 01446 222716 or 07788401616 or email info@angelagray.co.uk. Accommodation is available at Llanerch, visit www.llanerch-vineyard.co.uk for full details.

BASC’s Taste of Game Season runs from August 12th until the end of the shooting seasons and aims to encourage people to make the most of game, which has seen a surge in popularity in recent years. Independent market researcher Mintel predicts UK sales will reach £84 million this year.
