BASC gears up for CLA Game Fair 2011

Friday, 8 July 2011 9:00 AM

The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), is gearing up for this year’s CLA Game Fair.

BASC will have a major presence at this year’s fair, which will be held at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, from 22nd – 24th July.

BASC will have a stand where expert staff will be on hand to answer questions. Sections of the stand will focus on firearms, conservation, gamekeeping and game shooting in association with Honda, research, training and standards and wildfowling. There will also be a deer management section sponsored by Bushwear, which will provide a trophy measuring service.

BASC’s membership team will be available to recruit new members and renew existing memberships and the Langstone & District Wildfowlers Association will host a display on the wildfowling section. Pigeon expert and countryman Chris Green will also be on the BASC stand to provide advice and expertise.

Game cookery demonstrations by chefs Mike Robinson and Ralph Skripek will take place on all three days as part of BASC’s ongoing Taste of Game campaign.

Countryfile presenter Adam Henson will officially launch the Wildlife Habitat Trust’s (WHT) 2011 Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp.

The stamp features artwork entitled Greylag on Orkney by Terence Lambert. The stamp will be launched on Saturday 23rd July at 11.30am in the WHT area of the BASC stand.

Visitors to the WHT stand will have the opportunity to purchase stamps, badges and limited edition prints. Money raised will go to WHT funds.

To celebrate the WHT's 25th anniversary Hook Norton Brewery have produced 10,000 bottles of Giddy Goose beer. This will be available to taste and buy on the WHT stand or from the Hook Norton Brewery online. For every bottle sold the WHT receives a donation.

A film highlighting the work of the WHT can be seen at the CLA.

An art exhibition will also be on the BASC stand providing the opportunity for visitors to enjoy and purchase original artwork by Terence Lambert and Julian Novorol, both of whom have designed previous WHT stamps.

Signed copies of WHT trustee Alan Jarrett’s new book “Under Living Skies” will be available to purchase on the stand, alongside previous books written by Alan. Alan will be donating money from the sale of his books to the WHT.

BASC will be running a shotgun coaching line where our qualified coaching team, sponsored by Eley Hawk, Browning and Promatic, will offer expert tuition and advice. Game fair visitors can try shooting for the first time or sharpen up their skills. Lessons include gun fit and safety instruction with a BASC qualified coach.

There will also be gundog scurries open to all sponsored by Chudleys dog food.

BASC’s Steve Bloomfield said: “This year’s CLA Game Fair promises to be one of the highlights of the summer. BASC staff will be on hand to offer advice and information and to meet members and have the opportunity to talk to those considering joining".
