BASC: Gamekeepers aiming to be UK's top shot

Tuesday, 29 March 2011 12:00 AM

A national clay shooting competition for gamekeepers run by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) will be held on 9th and 10th April 2011 at the BASC Gamekeepers' Fair at Catton Park, Derbyshire.

Prizes of £50, £25 and £15 will be awarded for the top three scores on each day. The person with the highest score overall will also win the Lord Lichfield Challenge Trophy for gamekeepers.

Tom Blades, BASC's head of game and gamekeeping, encouraged gamekeepers to attend the fair and take part in the competition. He said: "The clay shoot provides a fantastic opportunity for 'keepers from across the UK to come together and pit their skills against each other. It will be held at one of the top events in the gamekeeping calendar, the BASC Gamekeepers' Fair, and we look forward to catching up with familiar faces and meeting new people."

The gamekeepers' competition is one of two clay shoots being held at the event over the weekend. It will run alongside an open 50 bird sporting competition on both days. A shotgun worth £800 is the prize for the overall high gun and cash prizes are up for grabs. There will also be cartridge prizes in the ladies', junior and veterans' classes.

Participants in both competitions have their own car park and do not have to pay to enter the show in order to compete. Entry to the 50 bird sporting competition is £20 and re-entry is £17. There is no additional cost for entry into the gamekeepers' clay shoot.
