BASC: Construction starts on new communications centre in Rossett

Tuesday, 23 June 2009 12:00 AM

Construction work on a state-of-the-art communications centre at the headquarters of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) in Rossett has started this week.

The Welsh Assembly's Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, Brynle Williams AM, took part in a ground-breaking event along with BASC chief executive John Swift and contractors Pochin yesterday.

BASC chief executive, John Swift, said: "It has been five years in the making to get to this point and I am absolutely delighted that we have got here. It is very important for us in a time of digital communication and political uncertainty to build a communications centre which is going to enable us to take our message on through the next 100 years."

Brynle Williams AM said: "This is a great occasion as this communications centre is going to become even more important in the next 20 years or so to get the message out there. It is a great honour to be here and to see how this will go from a piece of tarmac to a beautiful building that will be fit for purpose well into the 21st century."

Pochin's development manager, Anthony Pochin, said: "There is great enthusiasm in Pochin to what BASC does for shooting in general so we want this to be a success just as much as BASC does."

The two storey building will contain remote TV filming facilities including a soundproofed studio, a fully equipped design studio and video-conferencing facilities. It will form an extension to BASC's headquarters at Marford Mill.
