ADI: World Lab Animal Day on 24th April 2007
Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:00 AM
This year Lab Animal Day held will be the launch pad for campaigns in the UK, Europe and in the USA to end the use of primates in research.
"It is time to push for a primate test ban", says the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) as they mark Lab Animal Day with an exposé of the Top 20 Primate Labs in the UK.
At a reception in Strasbourg, together with MEPs, ADI and NAVS will be initiating a new Written Declaration 40, open for MEP signatures until the end of July. NAVS is urging supporters to lobby MEPs to secure a commitment in the next three months.
In the US, NAVS will be using Lab Animal Day to launch a new campaign to end the suffering of primates in US labs.
World Lab Animal Day was founded by the NAVS on April 24th to commemorate the birthday of former NAVS President and Battle of Britain hero, Lord Dowding.
The Day is recognised by the United Nations and is now marked by anti-vivisectionists on every continent. It is often marked by a full week of activity known as (World) Lab Animal Week or World Week for Laboratory Animals.

NOTES TO EDITORS
The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS)
The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS), founded in 1875, was the world's first group to campaign for the abolition of cruel and futile experiments on animals. Through its sister organisation, the Lord Dowding Fund, the group promotes non-animal research by awarding grants in excess of £3 million.
