Campaigns

The Stroke Association works to influence policy and decisions in government and the NHS.

Our mission is to constantly urge government and other authorities to do more in the field of stroke.

Over the years we have campaigned hard to improve services for those affected by strokes. Get involved and help improve services in your area.

The Stroke Association takes its campaigning messages to government ministers, Members of Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, strategic health authorities and local NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts. We are campaigning for the government to make stroke prevention, treatment, care and research a priority.

We have successfully campaigned for government standards to be set for improving stroke services throughout England, and are campaigning for similar standards in Wales.

Will they be delivered? It’s a key question.

  • Lost without words: Communication disabilities campaign
On 28 May we will be launching our Lost without words campaign to highlight the fact that 250,000 - 300,000 people live with a communication disability following a stroke.

We are aiming to raise awareness of this issue, and will be lobbying for better services for people who have communication disabilities as a result of a stroke.

  • Know your Blood Pressure
On 26 April 2008 we will be launching our sixth annual 'Know your Blood Pressure' campaign in partnership with Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI).
This is one of our most important campaigns as we not only raise awareness of the links between high blood pressure and stroke but also work alongside rotary clubs to test thousands of members of the public.

  • Getting Back to Work After Stroke

  • Stroke is a Medical Emergency

Because many people are unsure of the answers to these questions The Stroke Association is launched the Stroke is a Medical Emergency campaign in 2005.

  • Nobody told me...
In November 2006 we launched the "Nobody told me..." campaign, as many stroke patients feel abandoned when they move from hospital to home.
