The Warm Homes Campaign 2007
ABOUT THE WARM HOMES CAMPAIGN
The Warm Homes Campaign (formerly Warm Homes Week) started in 1991 as a way of raising awareness on a national level of the major impact of fuel poverty. The campaign aims to promote the case for increased investment in energy efficiency to reduce fuel poverty and to publicise the availability of grant aid to low-income households.
A key aim of the campaign is to inform MPs, Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), Welsh Assembly Members (AMs) and other decision makers about the health problems caused by living in cold, damp homes and the benefits that increased investment in energy efficiency can bring.
In 2006, 64 MPs, MSPs and AMs took part in the campaign. Legislators are selected on the basis of the positions they hold, their individual political concerns, select committee membership and long-standing support of NEA and Energy Action Scotland.
A number of events will also be organised during the campaign to publicise innovative projects operating at a local, regional and national level to help alleviate the problem of fuel poverty.
The Warm Homes Campaign 2007 is organised in association with eaga and is supported by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in England. In Scotland, the campaign is co-ordinated by Energy Action Scotland.
NEA acknowledges the active support given by the Warm Front scheme managers, eaga in identifying the clients visited by MPs.
