Policy and practice can’t always wait on achieving scientific certainty. Quick, pragmatic solutions are sometimes needed at earlier stages. However, NEA believes that as far as practicable, policy recommendations and practice should be evidence-based.

The aims of the research team at NEA include the developing our understanding of the changing patterns of fuel poverty, its causes and consequences. We also aim to uncover and further understand the circumstances and processes which lead households to be exposed either to cold and damp homes or the achievement of a warm and dry home at the expense of other resources necessary for health and well-being. Leading on and participating in the evaluation of internal and external programmes or projects we aim to promote domestic energy efficiency and warmer homes. The research team as part of the Policy, research and information section contribute to the development of effective policy and practice in promoting domestic energy efficiency and reducing fuel poverty through interpretation and dissemination of research findings.
