NEA Annual Conference

Countdown to 2010 – Are YOU doing enough?

NEA’s Annual Conference – Countdown to 2010: Warm and energy efficient homes for the vulnerable – will this year take place at the University of Chester from Monday 17–19 September 2007, supported by ScottishPower.

The plenary sessions at this year’s conference will cover the following issues:

  • Countdown to 2010
  • Targets for country, county and community
  • Ensuring social justice is compatible with an environmentally driven agenda

Implications for the Government’s statutory targets to eradicate fuel poverty are severe. In only three years’ time the plan is – or should it be was? – that no vulnerable household will be fuel poor. The conference will focus on the national, regional and local actions needed to support delivery of the Government’s targets and how to ensure social justice is prioritised in an environmentally driven agenda.

The new Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Phil Woolas MP, has been invited to provide the ministerial address at the start of the conference.

The main conference sessions are supported by eight seminars covering an extensive range of topics and three workshops allowing participants to have their say, ask questions and share knowledge and experience. An exhibition of products and services will be a main focus for the conference and will host discussion tables during breaks in the conference proceedings. There will be an opportunity to visit Ashton Hayes - the village aiming to be the first small community in England to achieve carbon neutral status. A varied social itinerary, including Roman and ghost tours and dinner at the Racecourse complete the line up for NEA's conference, offering informal networking opportunities. NEA is grateful for the support of ScottishPower, sponsors of this year's conference, and would also like to thank Defra for its additional support.
