Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM)

Welcome

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the leading professional body for waste and resource management in the UK.

Established in 1898, CIWM is a non profit-making organisation, dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the environment by:

  • raising performance standards

  • disseminating information

  • developing guidelines, policies and procedures

Waste management, traditionally viewed solely as a public health issue, has continued to increase its profile on the environmental, economic and political agenda and in response the Institution has gone from strength to strength, striving to meet its aims and objectives in terms of:

  • promoting education, training and research

  • advancing scientific and practical aspects of safeguarding the environment, and

  • achieving and maintaining high standards of waste management

CIWM works actively at local, regional and national level, collaborating with policy makers and regulators and promoting high standards and good practice throughout the waste industry.
