Membership

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management has served the waste management industry for over 100 years and is the industry’s leading professional body, representing over 6000 individual professionals in the UK and overseas.

Membership of the Institution is recognition of an individual’s professional status, reflecting their experience, skills and qualification.

For employers, it provides objective evidence of an individual’s level of professional attainment.

To become a full member, individuals must have a relevant degree or post-graduate qualification and a minimum of four years relevant continuous experience in wastes management including structured training. Alternatively, they must be a corporate member of a relevant Chartered Institution and have a minimum of two years relevant continuous experience in wastes management. There is also a minimum age requirement of 25 for full membership.

Candidates are required to attend a professional interview conducted by senior members of the Institution.

In addition, there are a number of other membership categories to take into account different circumstances and level of experience.

In a fast-changing sector, membership categories and qualification requirements have continued to evolve to meet developing needs.
