Incremental Review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Children’s Care, Learning and Development
The Care Council for Wales is currently working with its UK partners to undertake an incremental review of the Children’s Care, Learning and Development National Occupational Standards (NOS). These NOS underpin the Children’s Care, Learning and Development Awards levels, 2, 3, and 4.

Health and Social Care NOS Incremental Review
The Care Council for Wales is currently working with its UK partners to undertake an incremental review of the Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards (NOS). These NOS underpin the Health and Social Care Awards levels, 2, 3, and 4.

Post Qualifying Course in Child Care
The attached draft Specified Named Course Requirements for a Post Qualifying course in child care have been developed in recognition of the critical role child care social workers play in protecting and promoting the care of children in Wales.

Making the Most of your First Year in Practice
The Assembly’s document, ‘Making the Most of your First Year in Practice – An employer’s guide to developing a model for the effective support, management and development of newly qualified social workers’ proposes a model of good practice for employers to follow. Consultation on this document is hoped to begin in November 2007.

The Development of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for workers who support people with Sensory Impairment
Wales has the lead for this project on behalf of the UK and we have now reached the end of the final consultation phase. The second and final phase has involved obtaining the views of a wide range of people. They have commented on revised national occupational standards, and a qualification strategy document. These proposed new national occupational standards are intended to complement existing NOS from other related occupational areas (e.g. health and social care).

Consultation: The Common Core of Skills Knowledge and Understanding for the Children and Young People’s Workforce in Wales
The Common Core is a document which aims to reflect a set of common values for practitioners that promote equality, respect diversity and challenge stereotypes, helping to improve the life chances of all children and young people and to provide more effective and integrated services.
