Conduct & Practice
In order to raise standards in the social care workforce and to help improve public perception of the profession, one of the Care Council’s key goals was to produce national Codes of Practice for the first time for social care workers and their employers.
The Codes, which have been widely welcomed by the profession, establish common standards for social care workers and their employers. They give confidence to service users and carers about what they can expect from social care workers.
The Codes of Practice are the first ever set of commonly agreed standards of conduct that people can expect from social care workers and their employers. They are a crucial part of raising standards in the social care profession.
The codes provide a clear guide for all those who work in social care, setting out the standards of practice and conduct workers and their employers should meet. They are a critical part of regulating the social care workforce and helping to improve levels of professionalism and public protection.
The registration process means that service users and carers, who are at the heart of the Care Council’s work, will have a recognised process to complain against individuals registered on the social care register.
Social Care Workers agree to abide by the codes when they are registered. If any concern is expressed about the conduct of a registered care worker, procedures exist to investigate the case and assess the suitability of the care worker to remain on the register.
