Hot Water Burns Like Fire

Every year in the UK around 20 people die as a result of bath water scalds in their home.

A further 570 suffer serious scald injuries.

The under fives and the elderly are most at risk.

In May, Mary Creagh MP for Wakefield, proposed a 10 Minute Rule Bill that would require the installation of thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) in homes.

This would reduce water temperatures to a maximum 46 degrees centigrade and prevent these horrific injuries.

The Government is currently holding a consultation on the Building Regulations which deal with water safety.

The consultation will specifically look at improving water efficiency, but responses regarding hot water safety will also be considered.

Similar provisions have already been introduced in Scotland.

It is vital that this rare opportunity is used to influence Government ministers and push for a change in the law.

Hence the 'Hot Water Burns Like Fire' Campaign, supported by national charities and trade associations.
