The Primate Nations

There are growing calls for an end to the use of nonhuman primates in research. In this report Animal Defenders International (ADI) examines the similarities and differences between the primate species (including our own) and discusses the use of nonhuman primates in laboratories and the alternatives that are available to replace the use of animals in scientific and medical research. Stop Circus Suffering

ADI has built up a formidable body of film and photographic evidence that reveals the extent of animal suffering in travelling circuses. Our reports on the use of animals in circuses in the UK in 1998, 2001 and 2003 and 2004 have demonstrated that travelling animal circuses, by their very nature, cause distress and suffering. We have also published reports on the suffering of circus animals in Portugal and Ireland. We have prosecuted circus workers and owners, we have rescued and relocated circus animals, our Field Officers have worked undercover in over 20 animal circuses all over the world.

With the best will in the world, in circumstances of constant travelling and temporary accommodation, welfare will always be compromised. Our reports and videos reveal a world of confinement and deprivation punctuated by violence.

Below you will find links to the most comprehensive and candid data available on the use of animal in circuses.

My Mate’s a Primate

“My Mate’s a Primate” is a campaign to highlight the exploitation of our animal cousins. It is now time to put right a terrible wrong – to recognise that we are not alone.

The other species who share this planet are not less than us – just different. They share our love of their life and suffer the travails of life on earth as we do. In the case of primates, they aren’t just our mates ....... they’re part of the family.

Click here to read the My Mate’s a Primate report, which highlights the four ways in which primates are threatened or exploited: as bushmeat; in entertainment; the pet trade; and in experiments.

Political Animals 2006

ADI and NAVS launched a report, Political Animals 2006, for the Party Conference season to highlight political animal protection issues and campaigns.
