Drinking among young people is a major issue of concern for parents and people working with the young, particularly in relation to the risks of excess drinking.
Drinkers under the age of 16 are drinking twice as much as they did 10 years ago and are more likely to get drunk than their European peers. Rising levels of alcohol-related mortality and illness in adults also raises the question of whether problematic drinking by teenagers is a precursor for misuse in adulthood.
