Fox Head wraps up for European tour

3M car wrap film enabled complete wrapping and colour personalisation of trailer and motor-home with stunning results

Bracknell, UK, 12 July 2011 – Diversified technology company 3M today announced that its vinyl wrap film has been used in a vehicle advertising campaign for Fox Head, the most recognised and best-selling brand of motocross and other extreme sport apparel in the world.

A part of the UK’s largest sign company, Signs Express (Newcastle) was commissioned by Fox Head’s European Operations in Newcastle to turn their trailer and motor-home into mobile advertising. The promotional units are being used in Fox Head’s various sponsorship and marketing opportunities around Europe and the Controltac Car Wrap Film with Comply version 3 Adhesive Series 85Cv3 from 3M was expertly applied by Signs Express before heading onto its first event in France in June.

Over 90 metres of Controltac Car Wrap Film 85Cv3 was used to provide the dramatic look. Applied in matte black and overlaid with the striking and iconic silver Fox Head logo, the project is thought to be one of the largest matte vehicle wraps ever commissioned.

Russell Hollamby, Signs Express (Newcastle) centre owner, said, “This is a fantastic project to be involved in. My skilled sign makers have completed vehicle wraps for previous customers on this scale but not in matte vinyl. The resulting effect is very dramatic and stealth like, perfectly fitting in with Fox Head’s corporate identity. They will be clearly identifiable at large events and I am sure will attract a lot of attention.”

Fox has built its business by developing clothing for the high intensity, physically demanding motorsport of motorcross and has since moved into other extreme sports including BMX, wake boarding and surfing; building up a recognisable range of clothing, eyewear and footwear using its renowned branding.

Brode Vosloo, European Marketing Manager from Fox Head Europe said, “I must admit, I had my doubts when commissioning this vehicle wrap. I knew the overall matte black look we were wanting would look killer, but I also knew that to achieve this, there could be no blemishes, bubbles or misalignments in the wrapping and I was concerned about whether this could be achieved. Signs Express rose to the occasion and tackled this wrap brilliantly. I couldn’t have asked for a better result – so good in fact, it looks like we had the vehicle sprayed with matte primer in a hot rod shop in SoCal… this is the exact look we wanted for our new mobile billboard. Thank you.”

A key benefit of Controltac Car Wrap Film 85Cv3 for this project was its easy, fast application, covering the entire vehicle without seams and without bubbles or wrinkles. The film has a multi-layer construction and grey, pigmented adhesive making it ideal for covering high-contrast surfaces. The adhesive is also pressure-activated enabling repositioning of the film until it is exactly where it needs to be before pressing into place. The thicker construction makes for easy handling, simplifies removal while protecting vehicle paintwork, and offers resistance to petrol spillage and durability against harsh weather conditions.

“Fox Head is a great brand and we were delighted that Signs Express chose Controltac Car Wrap Film 85Cv3 for the job,” commented Kim Brewer, Marketing Manager, 3M’s Commercial Graphics Division. “This is a brilliant example of how vinyl wraps can be used to create unique and impressive results.”
